Mitie has been awarded a new integrated facilities management (IFM) contract with Magnox Ltd, which manages one of the largest nuclear reactor decommissioning programmes in Europe. The contract is worth £56 million over five years and has the option to extend for a further five years.
The new contract will see Mitie deliver a fully integrated FM service at 14 sites – 12 nuclear sites, a hydroelectric plant and a technical office – based across the UK. Mitie will provide engineering maintenance, cleaning, waste management, helpdesk, front of house, mailroom management and landscaping services.
Magnox Ltd is a subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, responsible for decommissioning the 12 nuclear sites and safely managing the waste generated from producing over 1,000TWh of nuclear power during their 60 years of operations, and safely managing the waste generated during nuclear research and electricity generation stretching back nearly 75 years. Mitie will focus on delivering repair and maintenance services such as water treatment and fire alarm inspections. This is vital to keeping buildings safe and all equipment operating efficiently, ensuring that Magnox Ltd employees can carry out their decommissioning tasks safely.
Bringing together its energy and project management capabilities, engineering expertise and industry-leading technology solutions, Mitie will provide Magnox Ltd with a proactive FM service focused on health and safety, resilience and customer experience. By integrating technology across the contract, Mitie will also continually work to improve Magnox Ltd employees’ experience while working on site. Mitie will do this by rolling-out its FM application, Aria, during the contract. Available both as an app or via desktop computer or laptop, Aria has several ‘menus’ related to the services Mitie will deliver. For instance, through ‘Refuel’ Magnox employees will be able to order and pay for meals and drinks on-site. Meanwhile, the ‘Ask’ section will allow Magnox employees to easily raise any issues on-site – ranging from a spillage that needs to be cleaned to leaky water pipes that need to be fixed – directly to Mitie and then track the job’s progress until completion.
In addition to Aria, Mitie will also roll-out its reporting platform, Mozaic. Through Mozaic, Magnox Service Managers will be able to log new issues, track the progress of the repair and maintenance jobs carried out on-site and review how much time was spent on each task. This will improve visibility and ensure Mitie service delivery meets Magnox needs.
The contract builds on Mitie’s significant experience supporting the UK nuclear industry, working with customers including Sellafield Limited, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and Low Level Waste Repository Limited.
Carlo Alloni, Managing Director, Technical Services and Integrated Facilities Management, Mitie, said:
“We’re honoured to have been selected by Magnox Ltd for this contract and to bring our experience of large-scale integrated facilities management services to their 14 sites. As a trusted FM partner for the UK’s national nuclear infrastructure, we’re proud to continue supporting the sector by assisting Magnox Ltd as it undertakes this critical decommissioning programme.”
Caron Weaver, Magnox Ltd Engineering and Asset Management Director, said:
“We are delighted to be working with Mitie as part of our mission to fully decommission the Magnox sites across the UK. We are confident this contract represents excellent value for money and are looking forward to Mitie bringing innovation and driving efficiency in the delivery of these vital FM services.”
