COVID-19: Keeping our communities safe
The COVID-19 pandemic has meant many people are confined to their homes, only leaving for exercise or to do essential shopping. Up and down the country, previously busy community hubs like high street shops, schools and community centres, as well as usually busy corporate offices and business parks, are standing empty.
Increased risk
In many ways the COVID-19 pandemic has fostered increased community spirit. However, sadly, many newly vacant sites now face an increased risk of vandalism, theft, trespass and fly-tipping.
In addition, building infrastructure failures, such as water leaks or fire, can cause very significant damage – in some instances, there is a risk that changed building occupation levels could render insurance policies invalid.
Mitigating risk
Across the country, through our services such as mobile patrols, regular inspections, key holding and alarm response, our security teams are working with clients to implement protocols that confirm insurance compliance, whilst ensuring their buildings are kept safe, secure and ready to reopen when social distancing measures are eased.

COVID-19: Supporting schools, parents and pupils
Although many schools have closed in response to COVID-19, Mitie continues to provide services, including cleaning, catering, caretaking, grounds maintenance, pest control and waste management to over 100 schools across the UK that have remained open for vulnerable children and children of key workers.
